Top 5 Ever Best Romantic Movies of Bollywood!

Love has been the pulse of Hindi cinema since its inception. Celebrating love in Bollywood style is unique and is revered all around the world. Beautiful backdrops, vivacious song and dance and emotion drenched dialogues have been the ‘apple of the eye’ for the Bolly industry. Romantic films like Raj Kapoor’s ‘Awaara’ and Guru Dutt’s ‘Kaagaz ke Phool’ laid the stepping stones in the black and white era that was followed through decades by films and film makers.  The fourth position is held by Guru Dutt’s love saga ‘Kaagaz ke Phool’ that is rumoured to portray Dutt’s increasing distance with his wife singer Geeta Dutt that was initiated by his alluring affection for Waheeda Rahman. The film is an epic and was ranked at 160 among greatest films of all times. The film has memorable music by legend S D Burman and artists like Geeta Dutt and Mohammad Rafi had lent their vocals for the songs.

The third position goes to ‘Devdas’ that is based on a novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The plot of the film revolves around the rich Devdas and the poor Parvati. How societal taboos set the lovers apart and ruined their lives forever is what the story is all about. The film has been made in different Indian languages so far. Though the first filmy version ofDevdas was made in 1927, the Dilip Kumar starrer of 1955 still tops the chart. Bengali actress Suchitra Sen played the role of Paro while the role of courtesan Chandramukhi was enacted by Vyjantimala. Devdas has managed to sway the audience with emotions every time the film has hit the silver screen.

2. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge

 The Shahrukh Khan-Kajol starrer ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge’ or popularly known as DDLJ is on position two. Raj and Simran managed to break all records at the box office as they toured all across Europe spinning a love story that has captured minds forever. Yash Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra debuted as a director with DDLJ in 1995. The film bagged 10 awards that year including a National award for the most popular film of the year. A movie hall in Mumbai is still holding shows of DDLJ…….what more does the film need to be a star!.

 1. Mughal-e-Azam


The film that has topped charts forever since it was made is K.Asif’s ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ that was released in 1960 for the first time. The epic love story between Prince Salim (played by Dilip Kumar) and a court dancer Anarkali (played by Madhubala) has been an inspiration for lovers through time. It not only broke innumerable records in terms of lavish technology and art used in the film but also for its brilliant music and songs that are hummed till today. The brilliantly scripted dialogues of the film were awarded with Filmfare that year. Naushad’s ‘Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya’ became the anthem for lovers all across the globe.
